Vasiliy Lomachenko had a slight 125-122 edge in punches landed and outlanded Jamine Ortiz better than 2-1 in jabs. Loma landed 31% of his power after landing 48% in his previous 18.
Hulu Theater, Madison Square Garden, New York City – In a lightweight clash, former three division world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko won a twelve round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Jamaine Ortiz (16-1-1, 8 KOs).
The scores were 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.
Ortiz started well and really made it a fight for the first round rounds. Lomachenko, who started slow, was starting to come on in the fifth as he began to connect more often on Ortiz.
Lomachenko continued to connect in the sixth, as the left eye of Ortiz was swelling up. The seventh was close, as Ortiz turned southpaw to give Lomachenko new looks. It was still competitive as the contest played out, but Lomachenko held the edge. Ortiz was game and let his hands go in spots. Lomachenko picked up the pace and connected with the better punches in the championship rounds.
