WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, the older brother of light heavyweight prospect Tommy Fury, believes his brother will wear down and eventually stop Jake Paul in the later rounds.
Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) will collide with Paul (6-0, 4 KOs) on February 26 in Saudi Arabia.
Tyson believes his brother has legit punching power that Paul hasn’t felt in his other fights.
“I don’t think it’s going to be a one round, two-second knockout, one punch type of job. I think he’ll wear him down. [It’s eight rounds], so I think Tommy can wear him out and stop him later on in the last few rounds,” Tyson Fury told IFL TV.
“As soon as Tommy hits him with some hard punches, I want to see what Jake Paul’s made of. Because when Tommy hits me with hard punches and big gloves on, it hurts me. I know Jake ain’t as tough as me or as big as me so he’s definitely going to be feeling pain, a lot of it.”
Fury will be the first boxer that Paul has faced in his short career. In past bouts, Paul has mainly defeated MMA fighters – with his last opponent, Anderson Silva, having past boxing experience.
Paul and Fury were scheduled to collide on two prior occasions. In 2021, Fury withdrew from the fight with a rib injury. And then a year later, Fury was unable to proceed with the fight after being denied entry into the United States.
Tommy Fury is deep in training for the fight and taking it very seriously.
“I’m training the hardest I’ve ever trained. Serious business. It’s the biggest of my life, of my career, but it’s not the toughest test. I’m having tougher tests daily in the gym with proper world-class fighters. You’ve got to treat it as it is,” Tommy Fury said.
