John Fury, father and trainer for undefeated light heavyweight prospect Tommy Fury, says a deal is very close for a grudge fight with Youtuber turned boxer KSI.
Last month, Fury was ringside for KSI’s fight with unbeaten pro Joe Fournier.
KSI was initially awarded with a second round knockout win, but the outcome was later overturned and changed to a no-contest when several replays showed that Fournier was knocked out by an illegal elbow shot.
After the fight was over, Fury entered the ring and went face to face with KSI.
The two exchanged heated words before the encounter became physical and they were quickly separated.
Fury Sr. has been in talks with promoter Kalle Sauerland, who represents KSI.
Tommy Fury saw action in February, when he picked up an eight round decision over another social media star who turned to boxing, Jake Paul.
Paul had initially planned to exercise an immediate rematch clause, but instead finalized a fight with MMA star Nate Diaz for August 5th.
“Well, we’re nearly over the line with that one I think,’ said Fury Sr. to Seconds Out. “Me and the Sauerlands, we’re nearly over the line with it. I think it’ll be announced very shortly.
‘Until it’s signed off, nothing’s done, is it? But I’m happy, we’re nearly there. We’ll hopefully get it on this year with him and KSI.”
KSI – real name Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji – confirmed that his team is currently negotiating the fight with Fury.
“I am training for that fight. Negotiations are going back and forth, we’re just waiting on Tommy [Fury] essentially,’ KSI told Misfits Boxing.
‘I’m training, I’m getting ready for that fight, that’s what I want. Because I know as soon as I beat Tommy Fury, Jake Paul’s whole career, his whole legacy’s in the bin, and I will be laughing.”
