Tevin Farmer may not be known for his knockout power, but that was not the case Friday night.
Farmer scored a vicious, one-punch knockout win over Oscar Barajas at the 2300 Arena in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The 33-year-old improved to 32-5-1 1 No Contest, 7 knockouts.
Throughout the clash of southpaws, Barajas was game, willing to stand in the pocket, but was outboxed during most of the exchanges.
Midway during the second round, Barajas was dropped by a jab from Farmer. Barajas did not look visibly hurt, but Farmer became more the aggressor and began to sit down more on his punches.
Farmer continued to have his way with Barajas. As the bout progressed, Barajas’ punch output dropped. During the sixth round, after Farmer threw and landed a two-punch combination to the body, he followed up with a vicious left cross, connecting and dropping Barajas down to the canvas. Referee Eric Dali immediately waved the fight off, as Barajas remained motionless on the canvas for several moments.
Barajas was able to get up under his own power.
Farmer last fought on June 24, dropping Avery Sparrow, who also lives in Philadelphia, once en route to a unanimous decision victory.
Prior to the win over Sparrow, Farmer had not fought for three and a half years. In January 2020, Farmer lost his IBF world junior lightweight title to Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz.
Farmer is planning a return to the ring on December 1.
Barajas, who resides in Zamora, Mexico, falls to 7-9-1, 2 KOs. The 33-year-old had won his previous three fights, amongst them a majority decision victory over once-beaten Damon Allen on July 9 of last year.
Junior middleweight prospect Oluwafemi Oyeleye stopped Jimmy Williams in the third round.
Oyeleye, who is originally from Lagos, Nigeria and now resides in Long Beach, California, improved to 14-0, 8 KOs. The 28-year-old has stopped his last four opponents.
Williams (18-13-2, 6 KOs), who resides in New Haven, Connecticut, has now lost his last eight fights.
Lightweight Joshua Jones of Philadelphia defeated Colombia’s Jonathan Perez (41-38, 33 KOs) by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 40-36 in favor of Jones, who improved to 8-0-1, 3 KOs.
Both Oyeleye and Jones are managed by Orlando Rosa.
In junior lightweight action, gatekeeper Diuhl Olguin fought to another draw, this time against Carlos Rosario (9-3-1, 4 KOs) of Somerdale, New Jersey. One judge scored the bout 59-55 for Olguin, while the other two judges scored the bout 57-57.
Olguin, who is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico and now resides in Oak Hills, California, goes to 16-32-7, 10 KOs.
