Shakur Stevenson loves himself a good fight. We’ve seen him dominate countless fighters across numerous weight classes on his way to becoming a three-division champion. Outside of what he’s done under the bright lights, when a ton of cameras aren’t rolling, Stevenson has been known to jump into the ring with Terence Crawford. Even when kidding around, Stevenson laced up his gloves and also took on Jared Anderson, the highly touted heavyweight prospect. In short, whether you’re big, small, fast, or explosive – Stevenson is willing to get in there and mix it up.
It might be conjecture, but the lightweight division is one of the most talented weight classes around. Making fights isn’t in his power, however, no matter how loudly he calls out his peers. Taking on Gervonta Davis, William Zepeda, Frank Martin, and Vasiliy Lomachenko will have to happen at some point. That isn’t a problem for Stevenson. If he was willing to have Anderson and Crawford launch a few fists in his direction, he shouldn’t have an issue with the lightweight division’s elite doing the same. With that said, there is one fighter that he wants to eschew.
“I don’t see myself fighting Keyshawn (Davis),” revealed Stevenson on his social media account. “Fans will probably be mad but I just don’t see it happening. That’s my brother.”
Davis (9-0, 6 KOs) isn’t quite amongst those top-tier contenders but he’s on his way. In less than a month, he’ll match up with his first former champion when he faces off against Jose Pedraza. More than likely, Stevenson will be sitting on the sidelines rooting for his good friend.
When they aren’t with each other at the fights, both Stevenson and Davis spend a ton of time outside of the ring. However, boxing has forced friends to put their relationships to the side in the past. All in all, money talks.
Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) is all about maxing out the amount of money he can make in this game before walking away. But, even if the Brink’s truck is backed into his driveway, Stevenson doesn’t believe it would be enough for him to change his mind.
“I don’t even know if there’s enough money to make me and my brother get in the ring and fight.”
