Sean McComb Injured, Bout Versus Yigit Postponed, Moved Off Jan. 27 DAZN Show in Belfast

Sean McComb is no longer on course to enjoy what would have been his quickest ring turnaround since his first year as a pro.

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the streaking junior welterweight prospect was forced to postpone a planned January 27 clash versus former title challenger Anthony Yigit. Belfast’s McComb suffered an undisclosed injury and will no longer appear on the DAZN show from Ulster Hall in his hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The rest of the show will proceed as planned. Locally-based welterweight Lewis Crocker (18-0, 10KOs) will meet Mexican spoiler Jose Felix in the evening’s main event. The show will include the latest step in the journey of Frazer Clarke (7-0, 5KOs), who represented Great Britain in the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics and is now a rising cruiserweight prospect. Clarke will face Belfast’s Tommy McCarthy in a scheduled ten-round contest.

McComb would have returned to the ring just eight weeks after his dominant ten-round points win over Liverpool’s Sam Maxwell on a December 2 DAZN show from The SSE Arena in Belfast. The win was his seventh in a row since he suffered a seventh-round stoppage loss to Gavin Gwynne in their February 2021 meeting.

The past year marked the most productive of McComb’s career. He earned three wins, all versus relevant opposition to prove his worth as a legitimate prospect on the verge of contention.

Boxing Scene has learned that plans are in place to revisit a fight versus Yigit (29-4-1, 10KOs) for McComb once he is fully healed.

Yigit’s career did not miss a beat. The 32-year-old southpaw  was already scheduled to fight on Friday and earned a six-round decision win over Jamshid Nazari in his hometown of Stockholm, Sweden. The win was his second straight since a twelve-round defeat to mandatory WBO lightweight challenger Denys Berinchyk (18-0, 9KOs) last August 26 in Wroclaw, Poland.
