Ramadan Ondash: Lebanese Muay Thai phenomenon

Despite being only ten years of age, Lebanese Muay Thai prodigy Ramadan Ondash has become an inspiration for many people due to his skills and accomplishments in that field, which he joined when he was just five-years-old.

It all began when his older brother decided to teach him the sports in spite of his apathy. After practicing several times and watching his brother perform, things changed and it became his “precious secret weapon”.

“I planted my love for Muay Thai in my brother when he was 5 years old. It flourished due to his efforts, and only 5 years later he became a planter himself,” said Ahmad Ondash, Ramadan’s brother.

His parents also encouraged him knowing that this sport will boost his confidence and teach him some self-defense skills.

Ondash noted the importance of Muay Thai in his life.

“I feel powerful playing this sports. I learned self-control, self-discipline, and self-defense. It is my secret weapon that I don’t show off except when needed,” he said.

Ondash’s days consist of going to school, studying, and practicing Muay Thai. He believes there is no substitute for hard work to achieve success.

Not only that, but he also examines his food choices avoiding junk food and choosing healthy meals that he considers as “his fuel for power.”

Ondash’s story shows how commitment and success go hand in hand.

As a result, he has amassed several accomplishments winning the Lebanese and Arab Muay Thai Championship, and the silver medal in the IFMA World Championship in Thailand.

He recounted what he learned when visiting Thailand.

“In Thailand, people learn Muay Thai at a very young age. Apart from the championship, I chose to fight against people who are older and more experienced than I am,” he said, adding that their bravery is almost contagious and that he learned so much from them.

Concerning his future plans, Ondash is aiming to participate in the Olympic Games in 2020.

Meanwhile, he trains every day and watches videos of worldwide champions to learn from them. His preferred Muay Thai champions are Saenchai and Buakaw and his favorite move is Saenchai’s flying scissor kick.

Despite his young age, Ondash has the key to success.

“I believe every person has power, and I’ve worked hard to reach my potential. My first battle was with myself to take the decision to exert all my efforts to become better,” the young fighter said.

He then gave credit to his brother whom he thinks of as someone who’s had significant influence over him.

“None of this would have happened if it wasn’t for my brother. Out of all the noise and the voices that I hear when I’m in the ring, his voice is the only one I listen to,” he told Annahar.
