T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas – In a middleweight fight, Elijah Garcia (16-0, 13 KOs) traded heavy punches for most of the fight to eventually drop and stop Armando Resendiz (14-2, 10 KOs) in the eighth round.
They met in the center of the ring when the fight began, to exchange punches at close range. Both were connecting with solid punches in close. In the closing seconds, a big left hand appeared to stagger Resendiz and nearly put him down.
In the second, they right back to trading punches at close range. Both were unloading with a lot of punches. This time it was Resendiz who was unloading and seemed to stagger Garcia for a moment. Garcia weathered the storm and came firing back.
It was all-out war in the third. Neither took a step back with heavy punches flowing from both for most of the round. More of the same in the fourth. Garcia seemed to have the minor edge, but both were connecting with power shots. In the fifth, both were making adjustments as the punches continued to fly.
Garcia had the edge in the sixth when it came to landed punches. Both were starting to utilize the jab more. The seventh saw Garcia continue to have control with his heavier punches connecting more often. In the eight, a combination to the head and body sent Resendiz down. Resendiz made it up, but Garcia unloaded with punches to gain the stoppage.
