Oscar Collazo vs. Garen Diagan WBO Title Clash on August 26 in Puerto Rico

Oscar Collazo already has a date for his first defense of the WBO championship.

The boxer indicates that his next fight will be a homeland defense in Puerto Rico and taking place on Saturday, August 26.

According to reporter Noel Planas, Collazo (7-0, 5 KOs) will take part in the first men’s world title fight in Puerto Rico in eight years when he clashes against Garen Diagan at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum. The card will be staged by Miguel Cotto Promotions.

It will be the first world title fight since countryman Román ‘Rocky’ Martínez won by unanimous decision over Orlando Salido in the fight held at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico on April 11 of 2015. Since then, the only world title fight held in the country was in the women’s branch, by Amanda Serrano, on March 25 of 2021.

Collazo makes the first defense of the World Boxing Organization minimumweight belt that he won on May 27 by knocking out the Filipino Melvin Jerusalem. The win made history among Puerto Rican boxers, as Collazo became a world champion in only his seventh fight.

Last month, Collazo was overjoyed when he officially received his WBO title in Puerto Rico.

“I am extremely happy. I see this and I cannot believe it. I have worked very hard to obtain this title. I want to thank my family, my parents, my wife, and my team. To Miguel Cotto Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and the WBO for leading me the way they have. I am a champion and now I will work harder to defend it for the pride of my family, my town of Villalba and all of Puerto Rico,” Collazo said.
