In a clash of unbeaten featherweights, Yan Santana stopped Jostin Ortiz Maysonet of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico in the first round.
After a competitive opening minute, Santana (9-0, 9 KOs) hurt Ortiz with a left hook to the head. Ortiz staggered into a corner, where Santana landed vicious left hooks to the head. Santana battered Ortiz until the fight was stopped at 1:11.
The 23-year-old Santana, who resides in La Romana in the Dominican Republic, has knocked out three consecutive opponents with winning records.
Ortiz falls to 4-1, 3 KOs.
Light heavyweight Yair Gallardo of Chihuahua, Mexico defeated Kevin Johnson by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 58-56 in favor of Gallardo, who improved to 5-0, 4 KOs.
Johnson was game, staying in the pocket and trading with Gallardo. The tactic almost did Johnson in as Gallardo hurt him during the third round. Johnson was able to weather the storm and make it through the round.
During the second half of the fight, Johnson did have his moments, but Gallardo landed the more-telling punches to come out victorious.
Johnson, who resides in Wichita, Kansas, falls to 3-2, 1 KO.
