Manchester Arena, Manchester – In a WBC final eliminator, featherweight contender Nick Ball (19-0, 11 KOs) picked up the biggest win of his career with a solid twelve round unanimous decision over former world champion Isaac Dogboe (24-4, 15 KOs).
The scores were 118-109, 116-111 and 119-108.
Ball began the fight by applying a lot of pressure and coming forward on Dogboe. At the end of the second, a solid left hook rocked the legs of Ball. In the third, Ball came roaring back with a lot of combination punching on Dogboe.
At the start of the fourth, a flash knockdown was called on Dogboe – but it appeared to be more of a push. Although, a moment later Ball rocked the legs of Dogboe with a hard left and stunned him for a second time with another left later on. The fifth was some give and take with both fighters having their moments.
As the fight played out, things were competitive, but Ball had the edge in activity and was coming forward pressing the action. Ball controlled most of the ninth and near the end of the round was buzzed by a solid Dogboe left. Dogboe came out firing in the tenth and was looking to push Ball back. Ball would eventually start firing back with both hands. The uppercut was landing for Ball all night.
In the eleventh, Ball was landing a variety of combinations of Dogboe, who often covered up but was getting tagged with some of the shots. The twelfth and final round saw a cautious start by both. They would eventually start to get active with their hands by the mid-way point. More or less, they were picking their spots until the final bell.
