Mayweather To Receive a WBC Juneteenth-Themed Title For Gotti Fight

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has revealed that his organization is planning to present five division world champion Floyd Mayweather with a special belt for his upcoming exhibition fight with John Gotti III – the grandson of organized crime icon John Gotti.

Sulaiman advised TMZ Sports that Mayweather will receive a special WBC Juneteenth-themed title for the exhibition.

The contest will take place on June 11 in Florida … which falls just over a week before the federal holiday.

Given the historic significance of Juneteenth, TMZ was told that the WBC wanted to commemorate the day as part of the weekend’s festivities by presenting their themed belts to Mayweather, as well as Robert Smith, James McNair, and Deon Taylor for their contributions to society.

“Juneteenth is a national holiday and Floyd Mayweather is the best representative for success and glory through hard work and dedication,” Sulaiman said. “The WBC will thank and support these four great men who make life better for all every single day.”

Back in 2021, the WBC created another Juneteenth title, which they called the “Freedom Belt” – and it was presented to Jermall Charlo for his win over Juan Macias Montiel on June 19th of that year.

The upcoming fight with Gotti is a pure exhibition with no judges, and no official winner will be announced.

Since retiring from the sport in 2017, the 46-year-old Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) has taken part in several exhibition fights – including three in 2022. The bout with Gotti will be Mayweather’s second exhibition of 2022.
