Former cruiserweight world champion Krzysztof Glowacki of Poland has been hit with a four-year ban by drug testing agency UKAD [UK Anti-Doping].
The ban comes down in connection with Glowacki failing a drug test in connection with his stoppage loss to top cruiserweight contender Richard Riakporhe.
The fight, which took place in January 2023, saw Riakporhe take out Glowacki in four rounds. Their fight was featured as part of the undercard to the first middleweight clash between Chris Eubank Jr. and Liam Smith.
According to UKAD, a post-fight test came up positive for the banned steroid boldenone. UKAD would then charge Glowacki with anti-doping rule violations.
Last October, Glowacki’s case was heard by the independent National Anti-Doping Panel. In November, a decision was made to recommend a four-year ban – with the start date of April 6 of 2023.
“It is very important that athletes respect the rules and understand their responsibilities to uphold clean sport,” stated Hamish Coffey, UKAD Director of Operations.
“Boldenone, as with all steroids, is performance enhancing and undermines the integrity of sport. There is no place for steroids in sport.”
Even with a four-year ban by UKAD, it remains to be seen if Glowacki will be allowed to continue his career in other countries.
Glowacki, 37-years-old, has lost three of his last four bouts. During his career, he faced a who’s who of top cruiserweights – including Lawrence Okolie, Oleksandr Usyk, Mairis Briedis, Marco Huck, Steve Cunningham, and more.
