US Olympian Keyshawn Davis landed a career-best win earlier this month against Jose Pedraza in Las Vegas, serving as the chief support to Teofimo Lopez’s title defense against Jamaine Ortiz.
Davis (10-0, 7KOs) produced a near-perfect performance to dismantle and halt the former world champion Pedraza in six rounds before proceeding to call out Lopez following a moment of crossed words earlier in fight week.
The exchange, which Top Rank filmed, went viral, with those tensions spilling over into fight night following their respective victories.
However, Davis does have another boxer on his radar who he wishes to fight soon in the form of EBU super-lightweight champion Adam Azim (11-0, 8KOs).
Azim was last in action on February 3, successfully defending his EBU title against Enock Poulson in five rounds at the SSE Arena in London. He has since been ordered by the European rating body to defend his title against domestic rival Dalton Smith.
Davis, who spoke to Sky Sports, confirmed he is interested in facing fellow prospect Azim, who has recently begun calling for a fight with the US Olympian in recent months.
“Adam Azim has been calling my name out for some time now,” Davis said. “I would love to fight Adam. A lot of these fighters be calling these names out but [are] not willing to take the fights. I’m willing to fight anybody.”
Davis paid tribute to Azim for how his career has begun, with Davis admitting that Azim does pose a threat due to the power he possesses.
“Adam is a hell of a fighter,” Davis added. “He has power, and he’s at 140 pounds. It’s another challenge for me. I’m not taking anything away from Adam, but I think I’m different. I know Adam has never been in a ring with a guy like me. I will stop Adam Azim. I know that for a fact.”
The 24-year-old Davis concluded that he would be willing to cross the Atlantic for the Azim fight.
“If Adam is willing to fight me, I will play the game, and we will fight in the UK and make it a mega sell-out fight,” the American said. “One thing about the UK fans is they love fights. I feel like once I stop Adam, they will [still] want to watch me fight again there because I put on crowd-pleasing fights.”
