Katie Taylor has rejected the idea that the official judges will have a bias in her favor, in Saturday’s showdown with Chantelle Cameron.
Taylor, the undisputed world champion at 135-pounds, is moving up to junior welterweight to challenge Cameron for her undisputed championship. Both fighters are also staking their unbeaten records.
Their fight is the headline bout for Taylor’s homecoming at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
Taylor was originally scheduled to face Amanda Serrano in a rematch. The fight fell out when Serrano withdrew with injury.
In a move that was very uncharacteristic for Taylor, she openly called for a fight with Cameron. With both champions being promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, it was an easy deal to make.
Cameron admits that she’s worried about the scenario of potential scoring mishaps in the challenger’s backyard.
Taylor has had a few close calls in the past, against Serrano and Natasha Jonas – and the Irish star came away with tight decision wins.
Reacting to Cameron’s concerns, Taylor shook her head.
“What can I say about that? Who cares really? Every fight was well won, well deserved so it’s nonsense,” Taylor told the Daily Mail.
According to Taylor’s head trainer, Ross Enamait, it was business as usual in preparing for the dangerous clash with Cameron.
“I wouldn’t say anything’s been different. I don’t really care where we fight, we just want to show up and put on a great performance and it doesn’t matter if it’s in Dublin or the middle of the desert,” Enamait said.
“We’ve had great sparring with bigger girls, we’ve been doing 15 rounds so I don’t really care what Chantelle Cameron weighs – it’s not a weight contest, it’s a boxing contest. It’s called boxing, it’s not called knockouts, we’re going to box.”
