Former cruiserweight champion and Sky Sports pundit, Johnny Nelson, believes Tyson Fury is still capable of beating everyone at the weight – as long as he “puts his sh!t together.”
Back in October, Fury put in a lackluster performance when he struggled to win a razor-close ten round split decision over former UFC champion Francis Ngannou, who was making his pro debut.
Fury was dropped in the third round of that fight and had issues with Ngannou’s style throughout the contest.
And now, a much bigger assignment is coming up.
On February 17 in Saudi Arabia, Fury will collide with fellow unbeaten Oleksandr Usyk in a high-stakes undisputed showdown – for the WBC, IBF, WBA, IBO, WBO world titles.
In recent weeks, Fury’s father – John Fury – has expressed concern with his son’s training camp.
Nelson is also concerned and fully sides with the elder Fury’s position.
“It’s time, you can’t do nothing about that. It might not be popular to say it but if his own pops is saying it, and one thing I will say about John Fury, is that he will always speak the truth,” Nelson told Pro Boxing Fans.
“He’s a straight-talking man. If he’s saying it you have to listen to him. But Tyson Fury, if he puts his sh!t together, he still beats everybody. His last performance, if he’s honest about what he said [that he had a full camp], then his legs are gone. If he wasn’t honest [about properly training], I think he can turn it around.
“If he doesn’t fight February 17 then we have a problem. Because if his dad’s saying it now, it gives you a sense there might be a delay, they might want more time. I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to push it down the line a bit.”
