The scheduled fight between social media star Jake Paul and UFC veteran Nate Diaz will move forward as planned.
On Tuesday, both sides announced that a press conference has been set down for May 9th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas Texas. Both Paul and Diaz will be present to have their first face to face.
The fight will take place at the same venue on August 5th, with DAZN Pay-Per-View distributing the event.
There was widespread concern after an arrest warrant was issued for Diaz – in connection with a physical altercation outside a bar in New Orleans this past weekend.
Diaz was ringside for the most recent Misfits Boxing event.
After the event, Diaz was confronted by a man identified as Rodney Petersen. Diaz would grab Petersen in a guillotine choke and then drop him once Petersen was rendered unconscious.
Petersen would post a video to social media where he displayed an injury to the back of his head.
After numerous videos of the altercation circulated on social media, New Orleans Police issued an arrest warrant for Diaz on second-degree battery charges.
Diaz’s legal team have already issued a response to the arrest warrant – claiming self-defense by Diaz.
“Nate’s attorney Walter Becker can confirm that Nate has received word of the arrest warrant and Becker has been in contact with court authorities in New Orleans,” Diaz’s representative Zach Rosenfield said in a statement sent to MMA Fighting.
“Nate’s attorney looks forward to presenting all of the facts about this incident to the District Attorney which clearly demonstrate that a trained fighter named Rodney Petersen aggressively pursued Nate with the intention of engaging him and once doing so, Nate acted entirely in self-defense. No further comment will be made at this time.”
