If the fans are wondering why Kayla Harrison hasn’t signed a new deal with a promotion yet, they’re not alone. Harrison herself is also growing increasingly frustrated with her ongoing free agency.
Two-time Olympic judo champion Harrison has made a blistering start to her professional MMA career, and has won two $1 million lightweight titles with the PFL.
After that second triumph, the general consensus was that she would move to either Bellator or the UFC, where blockbuster fights with the likes of Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes await.
But, almost four months removed from her second PFL season title, Harrison’s fighting future remains up in the air, and she’s getting impatient with the situation.
“I don’t really know what’s going on,” Harrison told MMA Junkie.
“I’m getting real sick of it at this point. I can’t comment on where I’m going or what I’m doing, but I can comment that I’m getting real sick of it.
“So, whoever wants me, I’m ready to fight. I’m ready to sign on a dotted line, get a contract, get a fight booked. I’m tired of talking about it.
“I’d like to find either a new home, or I’d like to talk to PFL and continue to make them my home. But I’d like to get this done sooner rather than later.”
Harrison said being a free agent was an enjoyable experience to begin with, but with time dragging on and still no contract signed, she said she’s become tired of the whole process and just wants things finalized so she can continue with her career.
“At first (free agency) was kind of fun,” she admitted.
“You go to the dances, you get wined and dined… You feel special. Everybody’s interested in you. You’re the new kid.
“But at this point, I know the fans are sick of it. I know the media is sick of it. I’m sick of it. I’m sure the promotions are all like, ‘Where the hell is she going? Let’s figure this out.’
“I know that patience is a virtue, and it’s something that I sorely lack. But at this point, I would really like… I already had to take a year off (2020) almost, because of COVID, so I don’t wanna waste any time. I’m here for a good time, not a long time.”
