Idalberto Umara Knocks William Encarnacion Out Cold in Second Round

Lightweight standout Idalberto Umara won his 11th consecutive bout by scoring a sensational one punch knockout of 2012 Olympian William Encarnacion in the main event of “Night of Champions IV” Friday, July 28 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL.

Co-promoted by Boxlab Promotions and Warriors Boxing Promotions, “Night of Champions IV” aired live on CBS Sports Network.

Umara uncorked a vicious right uppercut in the second round that knocked Encarnacion out cold. He remained on the canvas for a few minutes but was able to get back on his feet, where he was met with a round of applause from the crowd.

Time of stoppage was 1:51.

Hailing from Cuba and fighting out of Miami, FL, Umara improves to 11-1 with 8 KO’s. The victory earned him the World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin title and a top 15 ranking. Encarnacion, who lives and fights out of San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic, is 20-6 (16 KO’s).

Junior middleweight Jeovanny “El Rayo” Estela kept his unbeaten record intact with an impressive eight round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Chris Thompson. With a large group of supporters cheering him on, Estela landed a number of well-placed shots during the first few rounds. In the fourth, Estela dropped Thompson with a hard right hand. Moments later, Estela scored a second knockdown that had Thompson in serious trouble as the bell sounded.

Thompson, who operated behind a high guard, looked to turn the tides but Estela remained poised. He decked Thompson for a third time in the seventh but the game Kansas City native made it back to his feet.

Scores were 80-69, 79-70 and 78-71 for Estela, who improved to 12-0 (3 KO’s). Thompson is now 9-1 with 6 KO’s.

Heavyweight prospect Herich “La Amenaza” Ruiz moved to 4-0 (3 KO’s) following an eight-round decision against a very determined Dionardo Minor, 6-2-2 (2 KO’s) of Uhland, TX. Ruiz, a standout on the Cuban National Amateur Team who now resides in Las Vegas, NV, displayed a solid jab and good movement. Minor, who came into the bout with three victories against previously undefeated opponents, connected with some hard punches and continuously pressed Ruiz.

Sores were 80-72 and 78-74 twice.
