Promoter Eddie Hearn believes the upcoming clash between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz will be a complete mismatch.
Diaz, an MMA veteran, finished his long stint with the UFC last September after beating Tony Ferguson.
During the course of his career, Diaz has trained in boxing gyms with fighters such as former world champion Andre Ward.
He makes his boxing debut on August 5th, when he takes on Paul at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas.
It was recently revealed that Paul and Diaz would upgrade their fight, initially scheduled for eight rounds, to a ten round contest.
Back in February, Paul suffered the first defeat of his career when he was outboxed over eight rounds by unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Tommy Fury. Paul will be looking to bounce back and make a statement in his upcoming return.
Hearn recently watched some training footage involving Diaz and came away less than impressed.
He believes Diaz is in way over his head against an opponent who is physically bigger and more skilled.
The veteran promoter does not expect the contest to last more than four rounds.
“I watched Nate Diaz hit pads and I was like… You know it’s going to be a mismatch against Jake Paul don’t you?,” Hearn told The MMA Hour. “Yeah, and look, I’ve only met him a couple of times, what a gent. But for it to be a mismatch against Jake Paul, like, yes [he’s going to lose], yes. It won’t go four [rounds].
“Listen, unless it’s all a bit of a bluff by Nate what I saw… You can see people hit pads and you know, whether they [can box]… And we’re talking about Jake Paul. We’re not talking about [Tyson] Fury or ‘AJ’ fighting an MMA fighter, you’re talking about Jake Paul.”
