Gervonta Davis Says Next Fight To Take Place January In Washington D.C.

Gervonta Davis’ return to the ring appears imminent.

The knockout artist announced Tuesday on his verified Instagram account that he will be fighting in January in Washington D.C.

Davis did not share an exact date, venue, or opponent, and he deleted the post announcing the news soon after.

Recently, Davis has been in ongoing negotiations for a super fight against rising upstart Ryan Garcia.

In late October, Garcia said he agreed to a 136-pound catchweight bout in January against Davis but added that “we gotta get the [bullsh!t] figured out.” One of the major sticking points around negotiations has been around who will carry pay per view distribution rights between Showtime and DAZN.

The 28-year-old Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) is born and bred in Baltimore, and Washington DC is nearly 40 miles away, so he should still receive a strong show of support from his hometown fans if his 2023 return pans out like he says it will.

Davis could presumably headline a card at the Capital One Arena, home of the Washington Wizards and Washington Wizards.

The southpaw slugger Davis has been a box office draw in similar venues and markets such as Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Antonio, and Baltimore, but he’s never headlined a card in the nation’s capital.

Davis is facing a Dec. 12 trial date for a November 2020 hit-and-run incident after a Baltimore judge rejected a plea agreement in September.

Davis last fought in May and scored a TKO win against Rolando Romero inside six rounds.
