Gervonta Davis constantly rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulders. However, after hearing his name on the tip of Ryan Garcia’s tongue on countless occasions, the Baltimore native grew sick and tired of his perpetual callouts.
More than willing to placate Garcia’s audacious wishes, the two hammered out a deal that will officially see them square off on the 22nd of April in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although he’s pegged as the underdog heading in, Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) has assured the boxing public that Davis will endure a quick and painful night.
The 28-year-old has sported an incredulous look whenever Garcia begins to brazenly make his predictions. Although their showdown has been sanctioned as a professional boxing match, Davis hopes that Garcia brings a pair of swimming trunks with him on the night of the fight.
“April 22nd, I’m a walk you to the deep waters and I’m a drown you,” Davis recently stated.
Never lacking in confidence, the hard-hitting star has continued to violently put out the lights of his foes. Most recently, he forced Hector Luis Garcia to scream no mas following eight hard-fought rounds this past January.
For Davis, his stoppage win over Hector has become the norm. With only two foes escaping a bout against Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) without a trip to the medical tent, he believes that Garcia won’t be as lucky. Before closing out their fiery back-and-forth presser, Davis looked squarely at Garcia and his entire team before issuing a final warning. In his view, he simply hopes that the entire crew that Garcia rolls with will have smell salts ready and available come April 22nd.
“They gonna have to pick you up,” continued Davis. “Bernard (Hopkins), Oscar (De La Hoya), Joe Goossen, they gonna have to pick you up. And I promise you that.”
