Bellator 250: Gegard Mousasi defeats Douglas Lima to become two-time Bellator Middleweight champion
Gegard Mousasi is once again Bellator MMA middleweight champion after earning a unanimous decision victory over welterweight champion Douglas Lima.
With both men fighting for the first time in over a year thanks to the global coronavirus pandemic, neither fighter looked at their very best but it was Mousasi whose output swayed the judges to score the contest in his favour.
Behind closed doors in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, Mousasi showed little respect for the Brazilian’s power as he relentlessly marched down Lima against the cage to land punches, kicks and elbows in close quarters.
Lima’s activity did increase as the fight wore on, letting fly on his ferocious leg kicks to try and halt the pressure being put on his by his foe.
However, Mousasi’s fight IQ shone as he mixed in takedowns with his striking to secure the rounds and, in turn, Bellator middleweight gold for a second time.
All three judges rightly scored the fight in Mousasi’s favour.
The 35-year-old is now riding a two-fight win streak following his defeat to the now-retired Rafael Lovato Jr. – the man who took Mousasi’s championship off him – in June, 2019.
