Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch is not a fan of the potential crossover fight between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
Over the last few weeks, the fight has been rumored to be taking place in the coming months.
Froch wants to see Fury get in the ring with WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA champion Oleksandr Usyk.
The two sides were in talks for several months in the first half of the year, but their discussions fell apart when they were unable to agree on the financial terms for the rematch.
Usyk is now scheduled to make a mandatory defense against WBA ‘regular’ champion Daniel Dubois next month in Poland.
“Frank Warren’s just announced Tyson Fury will fight Francis Ngannou, who is an MMA fighter, so it’s another crossover fight – load of rubbish. He’s on about, ‘the game’s changed, it’s going to change the whole sport’. Absolute load of sh!t. I don’t like swearing, but it’s a load of sh!t. We don’t want to see that fight. We want to see Tyson Fury in there with Usyk,” Froch told Bettingsites.
Also next month, Fury’s domestic rival, Anthony Joshua, will face Dillian Whyte in a rematch. Should both boxers continue to win, Fury and Joshua could very well collide in 2024.
Fury would likely be tabbed as a massive favorite in that fight, and Froch agrees with the oddsmakers.
“They’re not giving Anthony Joshua a chance against Fury. I think it’s fair because he had back-to-back defeats to Usyk and he’s looking like a man that’s fighting with no confidence. He doesn’t come forward anymore. He’s on his back foot, he’s defensive first and he gasses after 8-9 rounds. I don’t think he’s got the engine,” Froch said.
