Matteo Signani’s defense of the EBU middleweight title against Anderson Prestot (24-2) that was set go ahead Saturday (March 19) night in Massy (France) was cancelled the day before.

The 42-year old Italian (31-5-3) had developed an infection in a tooth during fight week and a dentist was called in and according to Boxeringweb the problem was fixed but the left the champ with a few stitches in his mouth and he was thus unable to fight.

Signani-Prestot will be rescheduled for a date in May or June

German super welterweight Abass Baraou (12-1) stopped Argentinian Brian Damian Chaves (14-2) in the sixth round last night (March 19) in the headliner of Wasserman Sports’ show at the Tempodrome in Berlin. Chaves was down in the third and sixth. At stake was the vacant IBO Continental title.

On the same show Norwegian cruiserweight Kai Robin Havnaa (17-0) stopped Bosnian Ervin Dzinic (10-4) in the second round.

Super welterweights Oliver Meng (8-0) and Eslih Owusu (7-0) clash for the vacant WBC Youth title on April 21 in Copenhagen.

This is the third title fight on this Danish Fight Night promotion that already feature Enoch Poulsen (11-0) vs Franch Petitjean (23-5-3) for the vacant EBU super lightweight title and Sarah Mahfoud (10-0) defending the IBF female featherweight title against Nina Meinke (12-2).

Renowned French trainer Gaetan Micallef has passed away at the age of 93, reports L’Equipe. Micallef trained for decades some of the best French fighters around and the list of names looks quite impressive: Jo Gonzales, Lucien Rodriguez, Daniel Londas, Jean Josselin, Daniel Trioulaire, Cyril Thomas, Guillaume Frenois, Jose Hernandez and Jose Urtain – all at one time among the best in Europe with Micallef as coach.
