Euro News: Badou Jack, Wallin vs. Gassiev, Prat vs. Spomer, Zeuge, More

As first reported by Dan Rafael, Dubai-based cruiserweight Badou Jack (28-3-3) has now been named “champion in recess” by the WBC. This paves the way for a fight for the now vacant WBC cruiserweight title between Noel Mikaelian (26-2) and ex-champ Ilunga Makabu (28-3).

However, the fight between Jack and WBC Bridgerweight champ Lukasz Rozanski (16-0) from Poland is still without date and site. This matchup was announced as “almost a done deal” by Polish sources in late July, and was tabbed to be promoted by Skills Challenge Entertainment in Saudi Arabia.

French light heavyweights Daniel Blenda Dos Santos (21-1) and Mickael Diallo (20-1-2) clash for the vacant EBU title on November 4 in Pont Sainte Maxence November 4. The event will be aired by French network Fight Nation.

The winner will inherit British contender Lerrone Richards (17-0) as mandatory challenger.

French super welter Milan Prat (20-0) will, as previously reported, defend the WBA I-C title against WBO Global titlist Slawa Spomer (18-0) on October 14 in Oberhausen (Germany).

In regards to the EBU title that Prat also holds, he now has Englishman James Metcalf (25-2) as mandatory challenger with October 18 as deadline for purse bids.

Former WBA super middleweight champion Tyron Zeuge (27-1-1) had his third fight of the year last night in Magdeburg after coming back after almost four years out. Zeuge beat Dutchman Nasser Bukenya (6-4) on points in an eight rounder.

New York-based Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin (25-1-0-1) is now in Turkey for final preparations for his showdown against former cruiserweight champ Murat Gassiev (30-1) on Saturday in Antalya.

It’s a very important fight for both men, who both have had it pretty tough for various reasons with fights far and few inbetween.

Wallin is 5-0 since losing to Tyson Fury in 2019 while Gassiev is 4-0 since his loss to Oleksandr Usyk back in 2018.
