Euro News: Anthony Yigit, Enock Poulsen, Slawa Spomer, Samuel Molina, More

Danish boxer Enock Poulsen (12-0) has relinquished the EBU super lightweight title today (May 22). Poulsen told Ekstrabladet that he had been ill for a few weeks and couldn’t get ready in time for the scheduled defense in Paris, which was set to take place on June 10 against mandatory challenger Franck Petitjean (23-6-3).

Petitjean will now face Spanish champion Samuel Molina (25-2) for the vacant title on the same date.

The winner will then have Poulsen as mandatory challenger. Enock might also fight on the Danish Fight Night show on Friday (May 26) in Copenhagen in what be called a tuneup after over a year of being away from the ring.

German super welterweight Slawa Spomer (17-0) defends the WBO Global title against Italian fighter Felice Moncelli (24-7-1) June 24 in Heilbronn on a event promoted by Blanko Sports and SES.

Swedish star Anthony Yigit (26-3-1) was last seen being outclassed by Keyshawn Davis in Newark, New Jersey, and was stopped in seven. That contest took place in early April and Yigit is making a quick turnaround. On Saturday night, he is back in action in Malmo, Sweden, when takes on Englishman Jacob Quinn (6-2) in a fight made at welterweight and scheduled for four rounds.

Topping the bill in Malmo is Australian-Swedish super flyweight Linn Sandstrom (7-2-1) vs Venezuelan Johaana Zuniga (16-5). The fight has been billed as for the WBA Interim title or the WBA Intercontinental ditto – but apparently it is the WBA’s I-C title that is at stake.
