The president of Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM), Camille Estephan, is already putting together a plan to present professional boxing as soon as possible.
Estephan and Golden Boy Promotions are the co-promoters of former world champion David Lemieux among others.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Estephan was forced to cancel the two cards he had scheduled at Casino de Montréal.
“We remain very productive. We know things will come back, but we must not enter into speculation about when it will become possible,” said Estephan to Radio Canada.
“It is most likely, at first, that we will be limited [in how we present our cards]. At Eye of the Tiger, we have placed ourselves in a very advantageous situation if that happens. With our Punching Grace property, we will be able to offer our events by way of live streaming. In such circumstances, the sale of tickets to attend a boxing gala in person is not as crucial to the financial health of the business. We will have to rely on international customers like TV channels looking for content.”
According to Estephan, most promoters in the world who are not associated with a broadcaster will be forced to wait a little longer before taking advantage of the resumption of activities, while his company intends to keep everyone active and ready to go at any time.
Lemieux had struggles in his last fight, as he was dropped twice and had to fight through fire to win a split decision over Max Bursak in December.
Because of injuries, Lemieux has had a single fight since September of 2018.
“At 31, David is in the prime of his life. This is the time when he should be active and productive in the ring. Unfortunately, this is a situation that everyone has to live with. But he takes the time to tweak a lot of little things, especially on the side of health,” Estephan said.
“We put a plan in place with David so that he can make the most of this period instead of wasting time.
“When our athletes see that our entire team is working hard to improve our functioning and ensure the promotion of the company, it reassures everyone.”
