Eros Correa continues to win. He now hopes for a title shot or an elimination bout.
Correa knocked out Robin Ellis in the second round Saturday night at the Infinite Reality (also known as the Thunder) Studios in Long Beach, California.
The 30-year-old Correa, who resides in San Jose, California, improved to 14-1, 9 knockouts.
From the opening bell, Correa was the aggressor, putting Ellis on the defensive. About a minute into the second round, Correa dropped Ellis to the canvas, next to the ropes. Ellis remained on the canvas as referee Gerard White counted Ellis out at 1:55.
Correa has not fought since November 5 of last year, defeating Luis Fernando Saavedra by unanimous decision. Correa has now won his last four bouts since a majority decision loss to Katsuma Akitsugi in October 2021. He believes he is ready to take that next step towards the elite of the bantamweight division.
“Little by little, I kept jabbing (Ellis),” Correa told BoxingScene after the fight. “I stuck to the game plan. It was working and I was landing (punches) flush. I knew it was going to be one big punch.
“It’s the experience. I watch a lot of top fighters in my weight class and I see that they’re real calm and they put a lot of energy into their punches. That’s what I want to do in each fight.
“I want a title fight. At least a (world) title eliminator. I’ve been top-15 in the world for the last two years already. Hopefully, I could get a big fight soon.”
Correa is currently ranked No. 9 by the WBA and No. 13 by the IBF.
Ellis, who resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, falls to 6-0, 5 KOs.
In the main event of the CBN Promotions card, welterweights Louie Lopez of nearby Corona and Salvador Briceno fought to a draw.
All three judges scored the bout 76-76.
Lopez (14-2-2, 7 KOs) was coming off a knockout win over Benjamin Lamptey in his last bout on July 21. Ironically, the July 21 fight card was the last Thompson Boxing Promotions card.
Briceno, who resides in the boxing hotbed of Guadalajara, Mexico, goes to 17-7-1, 11 KOs. The 28-year-old had lost five of his previous six bouts.
Middleweight Nelson Oliva of Los Angeles defeated Dario Guerrero-Meneses (3-7-1, 3 KOs) by unanimous decision.
All three judges scored the bout 40-36 in favor of Oliva, who improves to 10-0, 8 KOs. Oliva is trained by Henry Ramirez.
Middleweight Alejandro Luis Silva (21-0-1, 16 KOs) of Buenos Aires, Argentina remained unbeaten, knocking out Colombia’s Janer Gonzalez in the second round. The 30-year-old has won six of his last 10 bouts by knockout.
Gonzalez (21-6-1, 17 KOs) has now lost six of his last seven fights.
