Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh – For the IBO super bantamweight title, Erik Robles (14-1, 9 KOs) shocked Lee McGregor (12-1-1, 9 KOs) with a twelve round unanimous decision in a fire-fight.
The scores were 116-113, 115-113 and 115-113.
The fight started fast, with both fighters trading at close range. Robles was unloading the kitchen at times on McGregor. McGregor stayed in close and was targeting the body at times to slow Robles down.
It was give and take for the next few rounds, with McGregor starting to fight from range and shooting uppercuts up the middle. Both were connecting well, with McGregor landing the more eye-catching punches.
They were back in close quarters, trading in close, by the eight round. After a close ninth, Robles was really unloading on McGregor in the tenth before McGregor weathered the storm and began to rally back with punches of his own. After McGregor controlled much of the eleventh, Robles came roaring back in the final 30 seconds.
In the twelfth and final round, it was give and taken between them until the final bell.
Junior welterweight Harlem Eubank (18-0, 7 KOs) stayed busy with a stoppage win over Ishmael Ellis (14-7).
Eubank broke down Ellis, who had no answers. Eubank dropped him at the end of the sixth and then Ellis’ team pulled him out of the fight in the following round.
In a big upset, Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko (10-13-1) shocked undefeated Matt Harris (5-1, 4 KOs) with a fifth round stoppage.
After two rounds it appeared to be business as usual for Harris, but then he appeared to tired and Dovbyshchenko began to come on with punches of his own.
As the fight continued, Dovbyshchenko began to land often and Harris was exhausted with little left in the tank. During the fifth, Dovbyshchenko began to pound him with punches – forcing the referee to step in to wave off the fight.
Lightweight contender Sultan Zaurbek (15-0, 11 KOs) easily took down unbeaten John Carter (15-1-1) in three rounds. An uppercut sent Carter stagging and the referee jumped in to save him from further harm.
In a minor upset, Bohdan Myronets (7-1, 4 KOs) outboxed and outlanded Kash Ali (21-2) for a six round decision win. The referee issued a sole score of 59-55.
Featherweight Isaac Lowe (23-2-3, 7 KOs) picked up a fifth round stoppage victory over Jonathan Santana (9-6). Lowe is now riding a two fight win streak since getting knocked out by Nick Ball in April of last year.
