Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos believes Tyson Fury is going to put on a show by carrying Francis Ngannou for several rounds in their upcoming fight.
Ngannou, also a former UFC heavyweight champion, will make his professional boxing debut against Fury on October 28 in Saudi Arabia. Fury’s WBC world title will not be at stake.
Back in 2017, Floyd Mayweather came out of retirement to score a knockout victory over UFC superstar Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
McGregor did well in the early rounds, before Mayweather eventually broke him do and stopped him in the tenth.
There were some observers who felt Mayweather carried McGregor to put a show for the live audience and those who purchased the pay-per-view.
Dos Santos feels we could see a very similar scenario when Ngannou steps in the ring with Fury next month.
“The chances I see for Ngannou is the main thing that he has, it’s the power. I don’t see the boxing skills on Ngannou. Conor McGregor, he had the knockout power as well. When he fought Floyd Mayweather, we could see something like that. Because they are getting paid (such) big money, they have to deliver a show,” Do Santos told Middle Easy.
“So they need to go, like, a few rounds. Like Mayweather did with Conor McGregor. You really believe Conor went ten rounds with him because of his merits? No way. Mayweather was taking his time and delivering a show for the people. Boxing’s different, and Mayweather allowed the fight to go.
“We could see something like that happening with Tyson Fury and Ngannou; Tyson Fury delivering the show and allowing people to really see the show.”
