Even the sport of boxing’s most notable fighters have been forced to hit the pause button on their training sessions. They’ll simply kick back, relax, and enjoy the show this Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On the night, both Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford will finally square off. All of the welterweight marbles will be on the line, and, according to most, the mythical title of “best pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” will also be given to the winner.
Dmitry Bivol doesn’t have a fight lined up but even if he did, he would clear his plans on July 29th, and check things out. According to oddsmakers, Crawford will march into their showdown as a slight favorite, something that Bivol believes is fair.
“I would say Crawford is the favorite,” explained Bivol on his social media account. “Because of his speed, movement, and reflexes.”
At this point, Crawford has yet to deal with someone who was even close to his skill level on fight night. With title reigns in three separate weight classes, Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) essentially punched his Hall of Fame ticket a while ago. Still, regardless of his credentials, Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) figures to be the one man capable of playing high-speed chess with him.
For the 33-year-old Dallas native, he ripped away the IBF crown from the carcass of Kell Brook, snuck out the backdoor with Shawn Porter’s WBC belt, and violently snatched Yordenis Ugas’ WBA championship.
Bivol, by and large, knows exactly what Spence brings to the table. He’s physically the bigger man, and hasn’t met a fighter he wasn’t able to break mentally. All of those attributes are applaudable. With that said, Bivol does believe that he has a few chinks in his armor. Crawford, on the other hand, is about as perfect as you can get.
“Spence is the bigger guy in the ring and also has great ring IQ but in my opinion, Crawford is the most complete fighter of all right now.”
