Cintermex, Monterrey – Super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco (19-0, 16 KOs) broke down and stopped Manuel Gallegos (19-2-1, 16 KOs) in the fourth round.
Gallegos came out aggressive in the first, moving forward and pushing Pacheco back. Pacheco was creating distance, jabbing and looking to catch Pacheco coming in. Pacheco landed several big shots that Gallegos was able to take. In the second, Gallegos went right back to his pressure style and was landing as well. Pacheco was connecting with the more accurate punches. Gallegos was eating heavy shots, but continued coming forward and often went to the body. It was give and take in the third with a game Gallegos making it a real physical fight.
The fourth began with Pacheco landing some heavy shots. Gallegos was still able to take them, moved forward and continued to swing away. Pacheco was still landing the more damaging punches. It was the beginning of the end when a hook to the body sent Gallegos down. Gallegos made it up, but then Pacheco battered him with heavy shots against the ropes to force the referee’s stoppage.
On the undercard, dangerous super featherweight Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez (34-1, 31 KOs) blasted out late replacement Hector Garcia (20-8, 13 KOs) in three rounds. The fight took place at a catch-weight of 137-pounds.
There were plenty of bombs thrown and landed by both in the first round. Hernandez connected with the more damaging punches. In the second, Hernandez rocked Garcia with a big hook and then attacked him with a barrage of power shots. Garcia barely made it to the bell.
In the third, Hernandez picked up where he left off – with numerous hard hooks to get Garcia out on his feet and that forced the referee to jump in there to wave off the fight.
Super flyweight contenders Jonathan Rodriguez (24-2-1, 16 KOs) and Israel Gonzalez (28-5-2, 11 KOs) brawled their way to a ten round draw. The scores were 96-94 Gonzalez, 96-94 Rodriguez, and 95-95 for the draw.
