Devin Haney Tired Of The Back And Forth With Gervonta Davis: “Have Your People Reach Out Gervonta”

Gervonta Davis is all talk…at least according to Devin Haney.

The 29-year-old is bombastic when he calls out Haney, but the current WBC super lightweight champ is noticing an irritating pattern.

“I’ve been calling that dude out for years,” wrote Haney on his social media. “He only say something when I got a fight but now, I don’t. We can fight now, wherever he chooses!”

Haney’s downtime may not last long but for now, he’s still looking back on his 2023 with a gigantic smile. Controversy started off as his main theme, as he eked out a close decision over Vasiliy Lomachenko at the mid-way point of the year. Following that, Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) decided that he was sick and tired of draining himself to make 135 pounds. So, in need of a reprieve, he moved up to the super lightweight division.

Taking on a soft touch was never in Haney’s plans. So, in his official 140-pound debut, he took on Regis Prograis. Their showdown wasn’t exactly viewed as a coin flip but Haney, in the eyes of many, had the slight edge. The way things played out, ultimately, Haney looked like he was in a different league, winning all 12 rounds according to the three judges sitting ringside.

Haney though, wasn’t the only one putting in work in 2023. Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) spent his year closing the mouths of a pair of Garcia’s. First being Hector Luis Garcia and the second being Ryan Garcia.

Fulminating and going back and forth perpetually might be entertaining to the fans but Haney finds it both boring and tiresome. The 25-year-old simply wants to fight. Under normal circumstances, Haney usually commands the negotiating room. He’s built a name for himself and typically calls the shots.

Davis though, won’t be bullied when it comes to figuring out an agreement. Whether you stroll around with a world title or have millions of followers, Davis is the one who dictates where they’ll fight, when they’ll get it on, and how things will be split up financially.

Haney doesn’t have a problem taking a backseat to one of boxing’s biggest stars. The bloviating coming from both sides is extraneous. From Haney’s point of view, if Davis wants to make the fight happen, he’ll pick up the phone and give him a ring.

“He said we don’t know how to get in contact with him, well have your people reach out Gervonta.”
