Derrieck Cuevas aims to extend his current win streak and make his mark as a budding contender.
The resurgent welterweight is set for his scheduled ten-round contest versus Ecuador’s Marlon Aguas. Both boxers came in at the contract limit of 149 pounds for their main event which will air live on ESPN+ this Friday from Coliseo de Combates in Panama City, Panama.
Cuevas (26-1-1, 18KOs) will make his third consecutive appearance at this venue, the previous two trips which ended in early knockout victories. The 29-year-old from Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico stopped former secondary title challenger Alberto Mosquera in the fourth round of their August 4 clash in his most recent outing.
The feat saw Cuevas pick up his third straight win, all inside the distance and since his lone career defeat three years ago almost to the day.
Aguas (14-1, 9KOs) has won five in a row, all versus nondescript opposition and spread out over seven years since a March 2016 stoppage loss to current fringe contender Ivan Golub.
