Heavyweight Deontay Wilder is applying pressure on Andy Ruiz to finalize a showdown between former world champions.
Last year, the WBC ordered Wilder and Ruiz to collide in a final world title eliminator – with the victory banking a guaranteed crack at current world champion Tyson Fury.
Wilder, who is also in talks to face Anthony Joshua in December, wants to take an interim-fight in August or September.
The dangerous puncher explained that Ruiz is dragging his feet at signing a contract.
“We offered you a lot of money and I think you should take it,’ Wilder said.
“I don’t want you to allow others to dictate your career at this moment in time bro. You only have a limited time left to make as much money as you possibly can. Don’t allow others to interfere with this, you make the decision. It wouldn’t be fair to you or your kids if you miss out on zeros if you allow others to interfere. Think about it bro. Let’s get this thing done, signed, sealed and delivered. I am sick and tired of waiting around, let’s give the people what they are asking for and what they want. Enough is enough, the ball is in your court now.”
Also on social media, Wilder blamed Ruiz’s father for making their negotiations difficult.
“Stop playing around Andy Ruiz and be a man and make your own decisions and not allow your daddy to mess up your last few years. It’s okay to be that [daddy’s boy] but you’re a grown-ass man with children depending on you. Remember that before it’s too late, then you’ll have regrets while your father lectures you on how you should have saved your money,” Wilder stated.
Widler has been out of the ring since destroying Robert Helenius in one round back in October. Ruiz has been on the shelf a bit longer, with his last bout being a twelve round unanimous decision over Luis Ortiz in September.
