Demetrius Andrade: “Thanksgiving Weekend is Gonna Be A Movie”

Demetrius Andrade was always a bit jealous and perplexed as to what was taking place around him. Although he was as skillful as they come, Andrade (32-0, 19 KOs) had a difficult time landing the sort of fights that could push him over the hump.

For years he did his best to lure the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Jermall Charlo, Gennadiy Golovkin, Jaime Munguia, and others into the ring. None, however, took the bait. In the midst of waiting for his big moment, Andrade became a belt collector, racking up world titles at both 154 and 160 pounds.

Grabbing those shiny trinkets did a ton for his popularity but there was still a void, one that could only be filled by a big-time fight. Come November 25th, he’ll get his chance.

At the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Andrade will take on current WBC interim titlist, David Benavidez. For most, those weekends are reserved for spending time with family and gathering around the table for huge meals. By all accounts, Andrade wants that tradition to continue. But while many will be preparing their dinners, Andrade wants his fans to get their popcorn ready as well and enjoy the show.

“Get your turkey ready, get your stuffing ready, get your greens ready,” said a hyped-up Andrade on a self-recorded video. “It’s gonna be a movie.”

Normally talkative, Andrade is just about done doing the promotional part of his upcoming showdown. After finally getting his hands on a notable opponent, Andrade is spending his time doing minimalistic activities. One, of course, is preparation. But when he isn’t putting the sweat equity in the gym, he stares at his fight calendar marking off the days.

“It’s about that time. We getting close. We’re gonna bring down the house. Thanksgiving weekend, it’s gonna be a movie.”
