WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford (36-0, 27 KOs) is very confident, that he’ll do a real number on Errol Spence (26-0, 21 KOs), the holder of the IBF, WBC world titles, when the two unbeaten boxers finally collide in the ring.
Spence, like his welterweight rival, believes that he’s going to dominate once they meet.
“He’s entitled to feel that way,” Crawford said to ESPN. “Just like when I called him up and told him I’m going to beat his ass, I’m entitled to feel that way, but the only thing different between me and him is I mean it.
“When that fight happens, everybody is going to see a different side of Terence Crawford that they really haven’t seen before, and they are going to see a different side of Errol Spence as well, because I’m going to make him look like an ordinary fighter.”
The fight is not that simple to make.
Both boxers are aligned to rival promoters, who have exclusive television deals with rival networks.
The contest is a pay-per-view bout, but the match has not reached a high enough demand level to satisfy the financial requirements of each boxer for such a fight.
“It all comes down to money, you know, who’s gonna be the A-side? Who’s going to get the higher percentage,” Crawford says.
Crawford is not the type to call fighters out and he doesn’t like to do too much trash talking. He prefers to do his talking in the ring by punishing opponents until they crumble.
“When we get in the ring, I’m gonna beat your ass. Let’s just do that,” Crawford says. “When I say I’m going to f— you up, I really mean I’m going to f— you up. I don’t want [to create] fake beef so they can say we for real then we at the bar drinking beers together afterward.”
