Gervonta Davis grew sick and tired of the bombastic trash-talking being hurled in his direction by Ryan Garcia. So, with the two agreeing to meet at a catchweight of 136 pounds, they officially lined up on opposite sides of the ring on April 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada.
By and large, the boxing world was fixated upon their clash. Amongst a long list of interested observers was current welterweight contender, Conor Benn. As most expected, Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) would go on to pound his young foe, resulting in a sixth-round stoppage victory.
Well before the two opted to settle their differences in the ring, however, Davis engaged in a war of words with Benn. Although the two currently compete in separate weight classes, the Londoner was recently posed with an intriguing question.
With Davis competing as high as 140 pounds, a supporter of Benn wondered out loud how a showdown between them would play out. Unamused and quick in his response, Benn revealed that essentially, Davis would have no shot against him.
“Little man gets slept,” said Benn on his social media account.
Currently, despite believing that he’ll walk through Davis, Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) won’t be stepping inside the ring anytime soon.
At the tail end of 2022, Benn, who’s spent the vast majority of his career competing in the welterweight division, acquiesced to the weight demands of Chris Eubank Jr., ultimately agreeing to meet him at a catchweight of 157 pounds.
But, just days before they tangoed, Benn was removed from the card and ultimately suspended with respect to a positive drug test. Since then, the 26-year-old has worked tirelessly to clear his name. In the midst of his attempts, Davis has taken to social media on countless occasions to lambast the foreigner.
Although Benn still has work to do in terms of proving his innocence, if a showdown between himself and Davis could eventually come to fruition, he firmly believes that he’ll have an easy day at the pugilistic office.
