David Benavidez pulled away in the second half of the fight, outlanding Caleb Plant 161-46 in rounds 7 thru 12. Benavidez landed 43% of his power punches in the fight. Benavidez’s 43 punches landed in round 10 were the most by a Plant opponent.
MGM Grand, Las Vegas – In a grudge match between two former super middleweight champions, David Benavidez (28-0, 23 KOs) came alive in the second half of the fight with an arsenal of damaging punches to secure a twelve round unanimous decision over Caleb Plant (22-2, 13 KOs).
The scores were 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.
After having a lot of trouble in the early rounds, due to Plant’s speed and movement – Benavidez surged in the second half of the contest with heavy shots. Several times Plant appeared to be on the verge of being stopped in the bout.
