Bryant Jennings Aims To Bounce Back, Work His Way To World Title Shot

The career of Bryant Jennings didn’t result in a world title reign but the Philadelphia native is proud of what he accomplished. However, having shared the ring with Luis Ortiz, Wladimir Klitschko, Joe Joyce, and a bevy of heavyweight contenders and former champions, Jennings (24-4, 14 KOs) believes that he still has a bit more juice left in the tank.

As of now, of course, the 38-year-old doesn’t have a single fight lined up. Nor does he have anything planned for his immediate future. Be that as it may, Jennings is anxious to pick up where he left off. Ultimately, if things go according to plan, Jennings envisions himself eventually stepping into the ring against a prominent heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound star.

“If I get my thing rolling the way I want it to roll, I’m a come in for an Usyk fight,” said Jennings recently to BoxingScene.com.

Outside of Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk holds a legitimate claim as the best heavyweight around. Those sentiments were seemingly solidified following back-to-back wins over Anthony Joshua.

Now, since said victories, the IBF, WBA, and WBO titlist has done his best to facilitate an undisputed clash against Fury. Up until now, nonetheless, neither side has been able to formally work out a deal.

In the interim, the WBA sanctioning body officially ordered Usyk to defend his crown against mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois. Should he pick up the win, Jennings will be eyeing his every move. Unlike most, the thought of becoming a unified champion isn’t the American’s main motivation. Instead, he simply wants to test himself against one of the game’s very best.

“It isn’t just because he holds the titles now. I just wanna do that.”

His ambitions, while admirable, aren’t exactly realistic. When last seen, Jennings failed to get back into the win column. With consecutive defeats against Joe Joyce and Oscar Rivas, Jennings hasn’t entered a ring on the professional level since 2019. So while he’d love nothing more than to swap fists against Usyk, Jennings will look to take small and meticulous steps as he works his way back from the ground up.

“I understand that I have some getting back to do. I’m a be working towards it.”
