Brian Mendoza Happy With Recent KO Win, Wants Big Fight Next

Brian Mendoza (20-2) returned to the winner’s column after his 5th round knockout of Benjamin Whitaker (15-8) at the Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The fight took place last Saturday night on the Tim Tyzsu-Terrell Gausha undercard.

The 28-year-old super welterweight was dominant and stopped Benjamin with a picture perfect right uppercut.

After his September unanimous decision loss to Jesus Ramos, Mendoza said that he wanted to go back to the lab with his long time trainer Ismael Salas and sharpen up all aspects of his game.

“I felt that was a solid performance and was still just a preview of what’s to come. I showed that I’ve learned a lot and added new wrinkles to my game just like I said before. Between refining my boxing skills at Salas Boxing Academy and working with the unbelievable strength and conditioning coach Tony Brady, I feel like I’m ready for anyone they put in front of me. I’m hoping for a big fight next time out,” Mendoza told BoxingScene.com.

The Cuban American fighter only fought once a year in 2020 and in 2021 but hopes to have a more active 2022 campaign. If he can’t get a big fight in his next ring appearance, he hopes to return sometime in the summer so that he can keep building momentum.

“It’s only March so I’d love to get at least two more fights this year.  I just want to show the world what I’m capable of,” Mendoza explained.
