Bomac: “Spence Is Something Special, I Know How Much Bud Wants To Fight Him, Conquer 147

Although most of the boxing world continues to call for a showdown between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford, Brian “Bomac” McIntrye, Crawford’s longtime trainer, refuses to get caught up in the ongoing drama.

For the better part of the past five years, both fighters have been regarded as the best of the best in the welterweight division. With Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) adding a third 147-pound title to his collection, courtesy of a 10th round stoppage win over Yordenis Ugas earlier this year, the Dallas native issued a stern call-out to Crawford.

Elated in his decision to challenge him publicly, Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) openly accepted. Since then, however, both sides have met countless rough patches along the way, with their recent round of talks falling through. Considering Spence’s unblemished record, McIntyre acknowledges that the powerful southpaw deserves endless praise for his otherworldly talent. Nevertheless, the world-renowned trainer believes that Crawford is both craving and yearning for their undisputed showdown.

“Obviously Spence is something special because of where he’s at in this game,” said McIntyre during an interview with BoxingScene.com. “But I know Bud. I know how much Bud wants to fight Spence and he wants to conquer the 147-pound division. He wants to be the undisputed king at the 147-pound division.”

When last seen, Crawford violently ended the world title challenge of Shawn Porter. The two would officially lock horns in November of 2021 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Porter had his moments, Crawford eventually found his rhythm, stopping the former two-time belt holder in the 10th round.

Crawford will now return in the month of December, in a voluntary defense against big puncher David Avanesyan.

Provided he wins his upcoming defense, Crawford will be shooting for a unification with Spence in 2023.

McIntyre admits that Spence is unlike any other fighter currently housed in the welterweight division. His impressive overall skills, according to McIntyre, have motivated Crawford to no end, leaving him overwhelmingly confident in his ability to hand Spence the first defeat of his career.

“It is a tough task for a fighter but you better believe me, mentally, physically, Bud is ready.”
