LAS VEGAS – All eyes on the sport of boxing will be fixated on the Errol Spence-Terence Crawford clash on Saturday night. The welterweight showdown takes place at the T-Mobile Arena with all 4 major welterweight titles on the line.
Crawford, who holds the WBO belt, is currently listed as a -160 favorite at BetMGM. Spence possesses the WBC, WBA and IBF titles.
Like the rest of us, world class trainer Bob Santos is very interested in the showdown.
While he understands why Crawford is listed as a slight favorite, he believes that Spence will be too much for the Omaha native who has captured titles in three weight classes.
“Listen, Crawford is a heck of a fighter. Moving back and forth from orthodox to southpaw has produced fantastic results for him,” Santos told BoxingScene.com.
“I just feel like in the end, Spence’s advantage in size and power will be too much for Crawford. It really is close to a 50-50 fight but Spence has fought the better competition in the division and that could be another key factor.”
Spence has only fought once since 2020 and prior to that fight against Danny Garcia, was also involved in a major car accident that caused serious injuries. His most recent fight took place last year when he stopped Yordenis Ugas in 10 rounds in Arlington, Texas.
“Spence has been through a lot but he always rises to the occasion. I could see a scenario play out where Crawford outboxes him and wins a decision but I still think Spence will be too big, too strong and too physical for him,” explained Santos.
Crawford last fought in December when he stopped David Avanesyan in 6 rounds.
The rest of the pay-per-view is rounded out with Isaac Cruz-Giovanni Cabrera, Nonito Donaire-Alexandro Santiago and Yoenis Tellez-Sergio Garcia.
