The featherweight title battle between Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega served up an instant classic at UFC 266.
It was one of the best title fights we’ve seen inside the octagon in some time, and a fight that Daniel Cormier described as the best fight he’s ever called live.
Volkanovski claimed a landslide decision on the scorecards, earning scores of 49-46, 50-45, 50-44, but that only tells part of the story of a fight that saw Volkanovski showcase the sort of escapology skills that Houdini would have been proud of, while Ortega showed incredible heart and grit to take the Australian world champion the distance.
It was a memorable fight that capped off a spectacular night at the T-Mobile Arena as the UFC’s 2021 International Fight Week concluded in some style.
