WBO Global super welterweight champ Slawa Spomer (19-0) retained the title and added the WBA Inter-Continental title to his collection after stopping touted Frenchman Milan Prat (20-1) last night (October 14) in the tenth round in the headliner of Legacy Sports Management’s big show at the Rudolf Weber Arena in Oberhausen.
Prat was down in the fourth, fifth, ninth and tenth before it was finally stopped. He also had a point deducted after deliberately spitting out his mouthpiece – and his cornermen took a very long time to clean it. While Spomer is German he was fighting the house fighter and it showed as Prat got chance after chance to get back into it – and at times it looked like his heavier punch would turn things around.
However, Spomer , who isn’t known as a puncher, kept coming and Prat’s leaky defesce let him down time and time again.
Prat also holds the EBU title at super welter – a title that was not at stake in this fight but as he lost to a European opponent it’s likely that he will be stripped of the title.
Despite his unbeaten record, Spomer has gone a bit under the radar. His last three fights have been co-promoted by SES and Blanko Sports.
As for Milan Prat, this was the kind of defeat that defines a career. He took a bad beating in this one and it will be a long way back.
On the undercard former WBA super welterweight champ Austin Trout (37-5-1) returned after a year out and beat Panamanian Omir Rodriguez (13-10-1), and veteran cruiserweight Mike Perez (29-3-1) floored Rashad Karimov (36-4) for an all too easy TKO win in the first round.
Legacy’s next show will go ahead in Saudi Arabia in February of next year.
EBU heavyweight champ Agit Kabayel did commentary for German TV and said he was looking to fight Anthony Joshua in December. However, if that fight doesn’t materialize, a belated defense of the European title against Frenchman Tony Yoka might be in the cards.
Yoka (11-2) has lost his last two fights but is ready to come back and if he wins a tune up a fight against Kabayel might be next.
