LAS VEGAS – The sport of boxing’s most highly anticipated fight finally takes place on Saturday night when Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford square off to crown the king of the welterweight division.
The undercard also has some intriguing fights at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, including the Isaac Cruz-Giovani Cabrera co-featured lightweight showdown.
One interested observer is lightweight contender Michel Rivera who has chased a fight with Cruz for years.
“Cruz has twice turned down fights with me. His promoter Sean Gibbons (of Pacquiao Promotions) is terrified of him fighting me,” Michel Rivera told BoxingScene.com.
“This is a fight that the fans would love to see. I don’t have a problem getting in the ring with anyone but Cruz is avoiding me just like Gervonta Davis has avoided the past 3 years. Let’s see if he wants to fight me after Saturday night.”
Rivera is expected to return to the ring in the fall and get two fights in this year . He would like nothing more than face Cruz in his next ring appearance.
“It’s no secret that they prefer putting him in with 126 and 130 pound opponents and they turn down the fights he should be taking,” said Rivera. “We have one opponent in common in Jose Matias Romero. He had a close fight with him while I took the fight on two weeks notice and dominated him just using my jab.”
