Carlos Adames: On June 24th, I’ll Prove I am The Best Middleweight in The World!

2022 was a breakout year for Carlos “El Caballo Bronco” Adames (22-1).

The Bob Santos trained fighter followed up an upset December, 2022 victory over Sergiy Derevyanchenko with a 3rd round beatdown of Juan Macias Montiel in December. With the victory he captured the interim WBC middleweight title.

That title will be on the line on June 24th when Adames faces former unified junior middleweight champion Julian “J Rock” Williams (28-3-1) at the Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“I am training hard in the gym.  I know Williams is a good fighter but I will prove I am better. Not only that but I will prove once again that I am the best fighter in the middleweight division,” Adames told BoxingScene.com.

Adames has been chasing a fight with WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo for over a year with no success.  Charlo hasn’t fought in almost 2 years due to injuries and other personal reasons.

The 29-year-old Dominican still wants the fight but isn’t holding his breath that it will actually come to fruition.

“I have wanted to fight him for a long time but he doesn’t seem very interested in that challenge.  It seems like he would prefer a tune up bout or somebody easier,” said Adames.

“I am focused on Williams but if Charlo decides to man up and fight me then there won’t be any doubt that no one is better than me in my division.”

Adames has now won four fights in a row and hopes to move into the top 10 pound for pound rankings by the end of the year.
