MGM Grand, Las Vegas – In a battle for the undisputed lightweight championship, Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) overcame a big second half rally by Vasiliy Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) to win a twelve round unanimous decision.
The scores were 116-112, 115-1113 and 115-113 for Haney.
However, the fans in attendance were not happy with the outcome and heavily booed the decision.
Two division world champion Shakur Stevenson was ringside and felt Lomachenko had done more than enough to win. Stevenson had been backing Haney to win the bout, but felt he was controlled over the twelve round distance by the 35-year-old veteran.
“Lomachenko should be undisputed champion here, he won. He won that fight. He laned the cleaner punches. He landed the cleaner shots on Dev, and he pushed the pace,” Stevenson said.
Stevenson, who recently moved up to 135-pounds to secure a third division title, wants to get his hands on Haney.
He explained that Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, called him out.
Stevenson wanted to go face to face with Haney, but claims the boxer and his father ran out of the ring when they saw him coming.
“Let’s make it happen. I think it should happen next. I think Devon is not on my level and Imma show it. I feel like Devon is a tough fighter, but there is a high skill level inside me and he’s not on my level. Bill [Haney] called me out after my last fight. Now I’m here and they ran out the ring,” Stevenson said.
“They seen me just now and they ran out the ring. They got a little scared. I can’t wait [to face him].”
