Cosmopolitan Las Vegas – Ismael Barroso was busier than Rolando Romero, averaging 33 punches thrown per round to Romero’s 26. Barroso out-landed Romero in six of the nine rounds fought. 29 of the 54 power punches Barroso landed were to Romero’s body. Romero landed 39 power punches.
The fighters traded knockdowns with Barroso putting Romero down in the third and Romero hurting Barroso and scoring his knockdown in the ninth on what seemed to have been more of a push. Barroso got up and continued to fight, but referee Tony Weeks halted the bout after Romero threw a flurry of punches at Barroso that missed.
Both fighters had landed nine power punches in the ninth round when the fight was stopped, handing Romero the vacant WBA junior welterweight title with a TKO win.
